2010 Austin Travis County Homeless Count and Survey

What: The count is an annual effort to assess the number of individuals living in Austin/Travis County public spaces. On the evening of the count, hundreds of volunteers are teamed up and sent out to survey streets, parks, campsites, bridges, underpasses and other places not meant for human habitation. Conducted by a coalition of local organizations that work to end homelessness (ECHO), the count is a point-in-time estimate of unsheltered individuals that helps these organizations design effective responses and measure their progress in the fight against homelessness.

When: January 28, 2010 from 4-10pm

How can I help: Please fill out an application here. You must attend a volunteer training session first.

Why: The count is an integral part of the local efforts to end homelessness. The annual count and survey:

  • Provides a consistent year-to-year measure to help those living in public places move off the streets into permanent housing.
  • Provides local service providers with invaluable statistics to design effective responses and measure their progress towards fighting homelessness.
  • Provides hundreds of Austinites and Travis County residents with an opportunity to volunteer and contribute to the fight against homelessness.

Thank you and we look forward to working with you on this very important event!
